Tomefold

Your journal,
for good.

Tomefold is a private journal and diary for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Bring in years of entries, write however it comes, and find every day just as it was.

Coming soon to the App StoreSee how it works
No subscription. No account to create. Your journals stay on your device and in your own iCloud.

The whole journal, at a glance.

Written at your own pace, found in a moment: every entry with its photos, its place, its day.

🖼️

Photos and video

Neighbouring photos sit in a mosaic. When you add one, Tomefold suggests its date, time and place from the file's metadata.

📅

Calendar and “On this day”

Relive what you wrote today a year ago, or ten. A random memory when you feel like wandering.

🗺️

Places on a map

Entries and photos with a place appear on a world map: your trips, held still in time.

✍️

Easy to write in

Separate title and text, bold, lists, checklists. A daily prompt and eleven templates for when you don't know where to start.

⭐

Favorites and tags

Mark the entries you love, organise them with tags and find anything with full-text search.

📖

A PDF book

The whole journal, one year or a single journal, as a book you can browse and print.

⚡️

Quick writing

A shortcut opens a new entry at once (Shortcuts, Siri, Spotlight), and an optional notification brings the day's prompt.

📊

Statistics

How much you wrote, on which days, in which years. A yearly activity grid shows your habits.

🗑️

No irreversible mistakes

Deleted entries stay in the Trash for 30 days. Automatic text backups.

Bring in years of journals.

Have you been writing in another app for years? Tomefold imports your entries with their photos, places and dates. It is a guided procedure and importing is always free.

  • Day One
  • Journey
  • Daylio
  • Diaro
  • Evernote
  • CSV
  • Markdown
  • Text
  • HTML

Importing again duplicates nothing, and what you wrote in Tomefold is never overwritten by an older backup.

How to import your Day One journal →

  • Import from a ZIP or JSON file, even a very large one.
  • Photos and videos are linked to their entries, without wasting space.
  • Export everything in open formats (JSON and one Markdown file per entry) whenever you like: your data is not held hostage.

A journal for two.

Invite one person to a journal: you read and write it together, from different devices and Apple IDs. Your other journals stay private.

Sharing goes through iCloud, by invitation only: no public link, no server of ours in between.

How it works

  • One journal, one share. You choose who to invite.
  • Whoever receives a shared journal sees it right away, with nothing to unlock.
  • Changes merge on their own: the most recent one wins.

Dictate it, read a well-written page.

A dictation is full of mistakes. With one tap, Claude turns it into a journal page, fixing the form a lot and the content very little. Then you decide.

CorrectedThis morning I got up late. Then we went shopping at the market and I got really sleepy.
  • Real fixes: misheard words, grammar, punctuation, paragraphs.
  • Your voice: first person, gender, opinions and feelings. No poetic flourishes, no thoughts you never had.
  • No detail lost: the name of the pizzeria, the time, the walk with the dog.
  • A short title if the entry has none.
  • Compare before applying, and you can undo it.
  • Your instructions: tell Claude who you are, the names at home, how you like to write.

It works with your own Anthropic key: the text leaves only when you tap ✦, straight to Anthropic, without passing through us.

Private, like a real journal.

A journal is the last thing that belongs in a service that lives off your data. Tomefold is built the other way round.

No servers of ours

The app talks only to Apple (iCloud and the App Store). There is no Tomefold account and we collect nothing.

Data on your device

Your entries live on your device. Sync uses your own iCloud, with your own storage.

Face ID

Lock the app with Face ID or Touch ID, and your device passcode.

Only if you ask

The only feature that sends text off your device is the Claude cleanup, only when you tap, with your consent.

Frequently asked questions

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, iPad and Mac (iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 15 and later), with the same app: tabs on iPhone, three columns on iPad and Mac. There is no version for non-Apple devices.

What happens to my journals if I stop using it?

Export is free: a JSON file compatible with Day One and one Markdown file per entry, with your photos as normal files. You can open them with any editor.

Do I need an account to use Claude?

You need an API key from your own Anthropic account, which stays in your device's Keychain. Requests cost a few cents per entry, paid by you to Anthropic: there is no hidden cost in the app.

Can I use it without iCloud?

Yes. Without sync your journals stay on the device. Remember to export them now and then: the app also makes automatic text backups.

Why is it called Tomefold in English and Giorni in Italian?

It is the same app. “Giorni” is Italian for “days”, which is what a journal is made of; “Tomefold” is the English name, a tome (a big book) folded into one app. The app shows the name that matches your language.
